ECG Builds 33 KV Feeder To Improve Electricity Distribution In Volta Region

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has finished building a 33 KV feeder from Aflao to Keta to improve electricity distribution in the southwest of the Volta Region.

As part of the project, the electricity distribution company laid new lines, constructed poles, renovated existing lines, and set up transformers.

The acting Volta Regional General Manager, Ing. Michael Babin, recently spoke with Joy TV about his organisation’s goals and stated that they include providing reliable electricity to the communities of Keta, Kedzi, Adafienu, Adina, Agavedzi, Blekusu, Vodja, and the surrounding areas in order to promote economic growth.

“The aim to provide quality, reliable, and safe electricity services to support the socio-economic growth and development of Ghana informed management’s decision to complete this project to provide convenience for our customers.” he said.

According to Ing. Buabin, the under-listed communities frequently experienced power outages and low voltage because of their reliance on the Sogakope Bulk Supply Point. In addition, he said, a transformer in the transmission lines was operating at or near capacity.

“These challenges led to occasional low voltage in some areas, hence the need to construct a dedicated line from the Aflao Bulk Supply Point to the Anloga Switching Station.

Because of this initiative, the company can now deliver power to the Keta enclave from either the Sogakope or the Aflao Bulk Delivery Point, leading to greater operating efficiency and flexibility. The company’s Ing. Buabin stated that numerous initiatives had been implemented by the company in order to improve service delivery and ensure customer satisfaction.

“We are constructing a switching station at Peki and Dzrakate, a primary substation at Sokode, and an express line from Kpando to Hohoe to augment the power supply in the region.”

Mr. Buabin pleaded with members of the public to report suspicious activity on ECG networks and illegal connections. Since ECG is now a cashless company, he urged customers to pay their bills on time through the ECG PowerApp so that the power distribution company can invest in programmes to improve service delivery.

“We urge our customers to pay their bills by downloading the ECG PowerApp from Google Play Store or App Store or pay through the shortcode *226# before our Revenue Officers visit their premises since this system enables customers to transact business with ECG anywhere or anytime. Customers can also pay at any bank… Customers who still wish to visit the ECG office to transact any business should load the money on their mobile money wallet before going to the office since ECG office no longer accepts cash,” he added.
