“If Elected, I’ll Let Local Contractors Build Schools To Eliminate Schools Under Trees” – Kwabena Duffuor

Former Finance Minister who is also contesting to become the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, has pledged to end the practise of using trees as classrooms if elected.

During his campaign swing across the Central Region before the party’s presidential primaries, he made the announcement that contractors from the communities would be in charge of building that the new schools.

In the latest news today, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana has had reason to shift his campaign’s emphasis back to improving the nation’s educational facilities.

This comes after reports surfaced that pupils at the Ghana Secondary School (GHANASCO) in Tamale are sleeping in bathroom toilets has caused widespread outrage. The Ghana Education Service (GES) announced the temporary suspension of the school’s principal and senior housemaster on Sunday, April 16, 2023. 

He claims it reveals systemic flaws in the educational system, such as a lack of classroom space, which his administration intends to address head-on.

“If we come to power, we will solve the problem of schools under trees. This time we will allow local contractors and artisans in the various communities to undertake the construction.” he said.

With a net worth of $680 million, Kwabena Duffuor is the ninth-wealthiest person in Ghana. He earned a BSc in Economics from Ghana’s University of Ghana and an MBA from New York’s Syracuse University. From July 1997 until September 2001, Kwabena Duffuor served as Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
