Edem Goget’em Biography

Denning Edem Hotor is a Ghanaian musician and performer who goes by the stage moniker Edem or Edem Goget’em. Edem is a native of Dzogadze, a small community in Abor, Ghana’s Volta Region. Edem is the only son of the two children, Wendy Sefakor Agbeviadey and Edem. The majority of Edem’s adolescence was spent in Accra and Aflao.

He received his primary and junior high education at Amazing Love International Schools and Bishop Herman College for his secondary education.

At 13, he lost his mother. He was left with his father, an attorney, and a sister. He lost his father at age sixteen. Currently, his only immediate family member is his sister. He was raised in a musical environment that included hip-hop, dancehall, reggae, and highlife.

Music Career

By the age of nine, Edem was frequently observed banging on tables, empty cans, and any other object that produced rhythm. In junior high, he joined his first group of musicians. In high school, he founded a six-member band called the Ringmasters. They performed both at the school and at other festivals. Typically, they sang, chanted, and danced. After graduating from secondary school, he pursued a music career in the commercial world. He collaborated with underground performers such as Kokromoti, Nival, Trigmatic, Vyroz, M.O.B., and Osibo.(Reference Required)

Edem appeared on Voice of America, where he discussed his “Nyedzilo” video, which features Mavin Records’ Reekado Banks, as well as his videos such as “The One,” which features Sway and discusses the liberation of Africa, and his award-winning song Koene, which was previously featured on Music Time Africa by Heather Maxwell and Vincent Makori.

In 2006, he released “Witine Woshi,” which translates to “we came and they fled.” It garnered widespread acclaim in his region and enhanced his clandestine reputation. In that year, he joined The Last Two Entertainment Group, led by hit-maker Hammer of The Last Two, on an official basis. This label is responsible for 1999’s Obrafour, Tinny, and 2005’s Kwaw Kesse, among others.

In 2007, Edem performed at live events including the opening act for John Legend’s concert at the International Conference Centre in Accra. Before releasing his debut album, he collaborated with acts like Obrafour.

After two years in the studio (December 2006 to December 2008), he released his debut single “Bougez” It was broadcast across the nation. On his debut album, Tinny, Kwaw Kese, Sarkodie, Obour, Asem, K. k. Fosu, Tuba, Samini, Jayso, Trigmatic, El, and Gemini were featured alongside newer artists.

Edem has appeared on programs such as the Stars of the Future Season 3 Finale, the Ghana Music Awards (2009), and all of the main university concerts. He has participated in Commonwealth Hall Week, Akuafo Hall Week, Evandy Hostel(Legon) Week celebration, Pentagon Hostel Week celebration, Miss WA Poly, Miss Ho Poly, KNUST’s Unity Hall Week celebration, and University Of Cape Coast’s Kwame Nkrumah Hall Week 2013.

“The Volta Regime”, his debut album, was released in January 2009. This album was recorded in Accra over the course of two years. Edem composed each and every lyric. Hammer of The Last Two, who also served as executive producer, was responsible for producing the compositions.

The second album, “Mass Production”, was released in 2011. Mass Production was to be a transition. According to him, the album contains a variety of distinct rhythms produced by various engineers, including hammer.

His videos “Delaila” featuring M.I, “The One remix” featuring Sway, “Only in Ghana”, “Wicked” and “Bad” featuring Coded (4×4), Koene, “Over Again remix” and “Not on my level (heyba)” have been featured on BET 106 &Park, ChannelOTV and TraceTv.

His subsequent album was titled “Books & Rhymes,” released in 2020, and a six-track audio-visual EP titled ‘Mood Swings’ the same year. The EP is dedicated to his mother, who passed away when he was an adolescent.

At the 2015 Black Canadian Awards, Edem won Best International Act – Africa. The award was won by him over Mafikizolo (South Africa), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Davido (Nigeria), Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Oritse Femi (Nigeria), and Teeyah (Ivory Coast).

Edem won the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Album of the Year for Books and Rhymes, Afropop Song of the Year for “Koene”, and Video of the Year for “The One” featuring SwayUK.

He topped the 2014 4syte TV Music Video Awards with three awards for “The One” featuring SwayUK, directed by Gyo Gyimah, including Best Directed, Best Photography, and Most Outstanding Video.

When the 2010 Ghana Music Awards nominations were announced, Edem’s debut album had received seven nominations.

 Edem is happily married to a lady known as Stayce Osekre Hotor. He became a father after the birth of his first daughter, Khloe, in February 2011. He now has three children.
