Eden Hazard To Retire From Football At 32

Former Chelsea star Eden Hazard is thinking about hanging up his boots after leaving Real Madrid.

After leaving Real Madrid and being rejected by MLS team Inter Miami, former Belgian international attacker Eden Hazard may be considering early retirement, according to the Spanish daily AS.

Hazard arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu with high hopes after joining the Los Blancos for a club-record deal in 2019. But because of his constant issues with fitness, his role was reduced season after season to the point where he was only a fill-in.

Real Madrid and Hazard came to an agreement to end his contract following the 2022–23 season, one year before it was set to expire, after four disappointing seasons.

While the former Lille star hoped to attract bids from European teams, Inter Miami made an approach to him because David Beckham wanted to bolster his squad after acquiring Lionel Messi.

At the age of 16, Hazard signed a contract with Ligue 1 side Lille and started his senior career. Under manager Rudi Garcia, Hazard quickly established himself as a key member of the Lille squad.

He became the first non-French player to win the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year title in his first full season, and the following year he made history by being the first player to earn the honor again. He achieved the league and cup double in the 2010–11 campaign, and as a result of his accomplishments and efforts, he was awarded the Ligue 1 Player of the Year, becoming the competition’s youngest recipient.

When Hazard joined Chelsea in June 2012, he won multiple trophies, including two Premier League championships, two FA Cups, two Football League Cups, and two UEFA Europa League triumphs.

Eden Hazard made a name for himself at Chelsea, winning the FWA Footballer of the Year and PFA Players’ Player of the Year awards and being named to the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11 in 2018. He paid one of the largest transfer prices ever—€146 million—to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2019. However, injury problems and poor play limited his playing time, and he eventually left the club in 2023.
