Efia Odo Goes Berserk Over Death Sentencing Of Ghanaian Lady Who Killed Her Friend In Self-Defence

Efia Odo stumbled upon a viral story featured by Joy Prime regarding a lady named Zelia Sulemana, who resided in Tamale and is currently facing a death sentence for the killing of her friend during a heated altercation.

Blogger Sika Osei shared the story from Joy Prime, shedding light on the unfortunate situation of this young lady, who has spent eight years in prison and is now awaiting her fate on death row.

Sika shared the story, emphasizing that Zelia Sulemana’s case is a tragic one, as she killed her friend in an act of self-defence. It was reported that they were engaged in a verbal dispute when her friend brandished a knife and stabbed Sulemana multiple times.

She said Sulemana managed to gain control of the knife and unintentionally caused her friend’s death while defending herself.

Efia Odo also shared the story on her Twitter page and criticized the verdict, stating that it is evident the girl acted in self-defence, and she cannot comprehend why she is being kept in captivity. She wrote:

Self defense and you’re put on death row? Where’s the sense in this ? So if an armed robber was coming to rob me and attempted to attack me and I killed him in self defense, I’ll be put on death row ? Ridiculous!!

In 2016, Graphic Online provided background information on the story. They said Zeila, who was 22 years old at the time, was sentenced to death by hanging by the Tamale High Court. This verdict came after a five-member jury found her guilty of murder.

The victim, Rawdia Aminu, a nursing student, was stabbed by Zelia in her chest and abdomen on April 11, 2014, in Lamashegu, Tamale. The incident occurred during an argument between Zelia and Aminu over Alhassan Abdul-Rahman, who was Zelia’s ex-lover and Aminu’s current boyfriend.

Before the crime, Zelia had befriended Aminu and even introduced her to her parents as a friend. Zelia had deceived Aminu by pretending to be interested in attending the nursing institution where Aminu was studying.

On the day of the incident, Zelia called Aminu and asked to discuss an issue outside her house. Aminu agreed and went outside, unaware of Zelia’s intentions.

Zelia then confronted Aminu about Abdul-Rahman, which led to an argument as Aminu did not know about Zelia’s relationship with her ex-lover.

Overwhelmed by her emotions, Zelia stabbed Aminu, causing her death. After careful consideration, the jury unanimously found Zelia guilty of murder.
