Elderly Man Chides Sarkodie For Not Spraying Money At Telecel Launch

An elderly man has criticized Sarkodie for his failure to spray money at the launch of Telecel, further solidifying the perception of the rapper as being stingy.

The man mentioned that even though he and fellow music enthusiasts showed their support for the artist, he did not acknowledge their efforts by at least dropping a few ‘coins’ their way.

He recounted an incident where Sarkodie hastily drove away after his show, upon realizing they were heading towards his vehicle, presumably to ask for financial assistance.

In a video shared by SikaOfficial on his X page, the disgruntled fan remarked that if it had been Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, he would have generously sprayed cash, unlike Sarkodie who does the opposite.

After the event, the man was heard saying, “Boys are following him because of money, so he [Sarkodie] should have given us money. If it were to be Shatta Wale, he would have sprayed cash. When we were rushing to his vehicle he sped off. Forget him. Shatta would not have done that.”

On March 12, 2024, a launch event was organized in Accra to mark the beginning of Telecel Ghana’s operations in the country. This event was the culmination of extensive rebranding efforts and marketing campaigns by the Vodafone brand.

The ceremony was attended by prominent individuals, including Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West constituency. Sarkodie performed on stage, treating the guests to popular songs like Original and Illuminati as Ghana embraced the arrival of Telecel in the market.

Sarkodie has frequently faced accusations of being frugal and reluctant to spend his money, unlike other popular celebrities such as Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.

In response to these claims a few months ago on Hitz FM, Sarkodie stated that he has no intention of proving himself otherwise, as he does not find it necessary to seek approval from others. Consequently, he has decided against releasing a press statement to address the accusations of stinginess.

That whole stingy whatever it’s just social media … I can’t feel well trying to please people, you know, so I’m not going to be on social media trying to act like I am not stingy, that’s your perception of what you have about me, I know myself so that’s not a big deal
