Before this extraordinary achievement, Evans showcased his immense strength and talent by securing the second position in the highly competitive East Flanders Strongest Competition held in Belgium.

Who is Evans Nana Ekow Aryee?

Evans, a Ghanaian-born strongman currently based in Belgium, has made a significant impact on the sport since bursting onto the scene in 2022.

Known as the Ghanaian Gladiator, he is admired for his fighting spirit. Before his strongman career, Evans had been living in Belgium for nine years. It was during the COVID pandemic, when gyms were closed, that he was invited by a friend to train as a strongman. With eight years of consistent strength training already under his belt, Evans placed third in his first local competition, which motivated him to pursue the sport more seriously.

While focusing on his strongman aspirations, Evans is also studying for a master’s degree in accountancy at KU Leuven in Belgium. In addition, he has a long-term goal of becoming a politician, with a particular interest in becoming the Minister of Sport in Ghana.

Since April 2022, Evans has been competing in European strongman competitions and has quickly gained recognition. He has participated in prestigious events such as Giants Live’s Strongman Open and the World Deadlift Championships in September 2023, where he showcased his skills among a world-class field.

Throughout 2022 and 2023, Evans has been actively involved in the Strongman Champions League circuit, consistently placing above mid-table in most of his contests. His standout performances have been in disciplines like Frame Carry and Farmer’s Walk, although he has also excelled in Deadlift variations, such as Deadlift Ladders.

In addition to strongman, Evans has also competed in powerlifting, achieving an impressive total of 833kg/1836lb in competition. This included a 350kg squat, 190kg bench press, and a 338kg deadlift, which set a Belgian record. Notably, all of these lifts were performed raw, adhering to strict powerlifting rules without the use of lifting suits or straps.

In September 2023, Evans made his debut at Giants Live’s Strongman Open & World Deadlift Championships in Cardiff, Wales. Finishing eighth overall, his standout performance came in the Wrecking Ball hold, where he demonstrated incredible determination and resilience, earning him a 2nd place finish with a time of 69.79 seconds.
