Football In Ghana Can’t Be Improved By GFA Alone – John Paintsil

Former Black Stars defender,  John Painstil, has joined a growing number of those who are worried about the state of football in Ghana.

Some present and former footballers have voiced their displeasure with the Ghana Football Association’s leadership and policies.

The present football administration has been criticised by football players Derek Boateng and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu for failing to improve the national teams’ performance since taking power. However, Paintsil thinks it’s not the responsibility of the GFA alone.

In an interview with Asempa FM, John Painstil said, “The weight of the job [football development] cannot be done by just one person or body… It is collective efforts that require all of us to play a role to be able to attain success.”

The 42-year-old also urged the government to do its part in many ways to help the country regain its former level of success on the African football pitch.

“Talking about football development at large, the Ghana Football Association can’t do it alone… Take a look at how the governments of Morocco and Senegal have supported and contributed to football development in the two countries. I believe the Ghana government is willing to offer support, too,” he added.
