Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, a former lawmaker representing Old Tafo, will be laid to rest today, April 15. The family has announced that the burial and funeral services will take place at Accra’s Holy Spirit Cathedral.

On March 20, 2023, the government lost its previous minister of state for monitoring and evaluation. His death was confirmed on the official Parliament of Ghana Facebook page.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, are just two of the many prominent figures who have spoken out about Dr. Akoto Osei since his passing.

Dr. Bawumia paid respect to the late Monitoring and Evaluation Minister by saying he was a “good friend” of the minister.

In an interview, Dr. Bawumia praised the former Minister’s unwavering commitment to the country’s progress.

“I have heard with shock, the passing of Hon. Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, former MP and Minister of the Republic. Dr. was a very good friend and one of the people I worked closely with as a Deputy Governor and Vice President of the Republic.” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He lived to be 69 years old. Mr. Osei served as the Minister of State for Finance and Economic Planning under then-President John Agvekum Kufuor.

In March of 2002, he was elected to the Merchant Bank (Ghana) Ltd. Management Board. He has previously held positions as a research assistant at the Centre for Policy Analysis in Ghana and as an associate professor at Dollard University in the United States.

In May 2017, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointed Anthony Akoto Osei as one of the 19 ministers.
