Freezy Macbones Finally Agrees To Represent Ghana

After controversially stating a few months ago that he intends to represent the United Kingdom in world boxing, Ghanaian boxer Seth Gyimah aka Freezy Macbones, has made a sharp U-turn and will now represent Ghana in the 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers.

Freezy Macbones is prepared to compete for Ghana’s Black Bombers in the next African qualifier tournament in Dakar, Senegal, according to a fresh post he shared on Twitter.

Only a few months after the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) verified that he had changed his nationality to the United Kingdom (UK), he decided against playing for Ghana. The boxer announced on Twitter that he had been asked to represent Ghana and that he intended to accept the invitation.

“I have been called on to represent my country Ghana at the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France. This will commence after the African qualification bouts next month.

In Dakar, Senegal which I’m currently training hard for, in order to make it past the qualifiers & bring back the Gold next year. This opportunity to represent my home country at the world’s biggest sporting event is a dream come true.

It’s time to make my country, family and friends proud. I’ll be joining the Black Bombers of Ghana soon to make this dream a reality. Thank you all for the support so far, I hope I can continue to count on your support as my journey continues Let’s Go! See you guys again soon!

In a previous post shared by Tru News Report, we mentioned that Freezy MacBones has chosen to naturalize for the UK. According the GBA chairman Abraham Neequaye, Seth, also known as Freezy MacBones, had previously intended to compete under the Ghanaian flag but made a last-minute switch.

Following his victory over Darryl Sharp at the Copper Boxing Arena in London in April, the professional boxer initially attracted the nation’s notice. The 33-year-old recently competed in an undercard fight for the Joe Joyce vs. Zhilei Zhang main event, winning by unanimous decision of the judges.

It was only his second professional fight since leaving Ghana for the United Kingdom. Many Ghanaians were inspired by his accomplishment to consider whether he should represent their country internationally.

However, the Association asserts that Freezy applied for a GBA license before his most recent fights, making him a Ghanaian fighter.

Prior to his fight with Darryl Sharp, he changed to a UK license to participate as a British person. Neequaye stated, “We sent him a message and he can confirm it,” in an interview with Romeo TV.

Neequaye in an interview with Romeo TV said, “We sent him a message and he can confirm it. “Before his fight in the UK, he had come to Ghana to get a license from the Ghana Boxing Authority. He came for our license, but when it was time to get a release letter from us, he changed his mind and decided to fight as a UK national.”
