Ghana Has Done A Lot For Me- JZyNo

Liberian Afrobeats artist, JZyNo has expressed his gratitude towards the people of Ghana for their significant role in shaping his musical journey and propelling him to his current success.

The artiste whose real name is Jonathan Lee Pratt shared how he embarked on his career in Ghana back in March 2015.

Having resided in Accra for the past nine years, he acknowledged that he has experienced and savored everything the city has to offer.

JZyNo’s recent achievement includes receiving two nominations at the 25th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) in the categories of Best African Artiste and International Collaboration of the Year for his song “Butter My Bread,” featuring Ghana’s own Lasmid.

Upon learning about these nominations, which mark another milestone in his career, JZyNo proudly stated that his home country, Liberia, holds him in high regard due to the support and opportunities he received from Ghana.

Here is what he shared.

“Ghana has done a lot for me. Thank You Ghana. God first, y’all the reason Liberia is proud of me today.

“My 9 years now in Ghana. Came here March 2015. I’ve seen and eaten everything in Accra”.

JZyNO Butta My Bread has garnered over 160 million streams on various platforms, solidifying its position as the most popular Afrobeats track from Liberia thus far.

In an interview with the BBC, he discussed the song’s remarkable success.

“The process of Butta My Bread was crazy. We didn’t see it coming, that was not the song we had in mind to record when we were about to go to the studio, but Lasmid and I just came up with that song,” he tells me.

“I was in a hurry to travel to Liberia so I’m like: ‘Bro, this is it – the song is great, that’s it.’

“I knew the song was a big song in myself, but not that it was going to blow the world, I didn’t see that coming.”

“I started having interest because they all used to hail me, like: ‘Bro you’re dope, you’re special.’

“So I was like: ‘Since they’re giving me the courage, let me pay attention to this music thing and start learning about it’.”

He started recording songs using small headphones and a computer. By 2018 he started getting noticed, and returned to Liberia where he had his first hit song Kpan Kpan Me in 2019.

“During coronavirus time there were not many artists that dropped projects, so I think there was space – some holes – that made my song blow in Liberia,” he says modestly.
