Canadian police have confirmed the tragic death of Adu Boakye, a 39-year-old Ghanaian father of four who recently relocated to Canada, in a random shooting incident.

Boakye was one of two victims in the shooting that occurred in the North York area of northwest Toronto. The incident took place on Saturday, February 17, 2024, around 3:05 p.m., in the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area.

According to a police statement, Boakye was found with gunshot wounds, and despite life-saving measures performed at the scene, he succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital.

Detective Phillip Campbell, in a subsequent media interview, revealed that Boakye and another unnamed 16-year-old boy were both “shot indiscriminately” less than 24 hours apart while waiting for a bus in the same area.

“Our investigation thus far has revealed there is no relationship between Mr. Boakye and the individual, or individuals, who shot him,” Det. Campbell stated.

He emphasized that Boakye, like the victim shot the day before, was innocently going about his business when he was fatally shot.
