According to a MyNewsGH publication, a Ghanaian police officer identified as Corporal Francis Adusei, reportedly shot himself with a service rifle at his residence in Atomic Police barracks, Kwabenya.
The incident occurred on Monday, May 6, 2024, at approximately 8:45 am, according to a police situational report. Upon hearing a gunshot, neighbours rushed to the residence of Corporal Adusei, where they discovered him with a gunshot wound.
An AK47 assault rifle, with the serial number GHGP/58NHQ/PU/AZ6303 – 205, was found on the bed. Blood stains were observed on the bedspread and the floor, along with an empty shell and one round of AK 47 ammunition in his bedroom.
The door was locked from the inside. Corporal Adusei was immediately taken to Ghana Atomic Energy Commission Hospital for initial treatment and was later transferred to the emergency ward of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
Unfortunately, he passed away while receiving medical attention at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The body of the deceased has been transported to the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, pending an autopsy.
