Ghanaian Rapper OJ Blaq Confirmed Dead

Hiplife star, OJ Blaq, known for his hit song ‘Chale Wote’ has been confirmed dead at the age of 40.

Social media posts by some Ghanaian celebrities, including Captain Planet of 4X4 fame and ace media personality Caroline Sampson, suggest that the musician who became a preacher of the gospel died in the early hours of Thursday, August 17, 2023.

The rapper had been suffering kidney problems for a number of years, however, the exact cause of death has not yet been determined.

OJ Blaq was born in Accra, Ghana, and went by the name Andy Nii Akrashie. He started making music in the early 2000s, and in 2006, he published his debut album, “The Blaq Mixtape.”

OJ Blaq was renowned for both his distinctive rhyming style and the social commentary he included in his music. He was well-known for his roles in various Ghanaian movies and TV shows.

On Sydney’s “My Sweetie” tune from the renowned “Abuskeleke” album, OJ Blaq’s enormous musical abilities were first made known to the general audience. Then he started working on his masterpiece album, “Galanja,” honing his musical abilities as he went along through interactions with different artists, including Okyeame Kwame, Tinny, Asem, Richie, Kwaata, Salimi, Dampo, and Diojo, among others.

With its unusual beats and rhythms and his precisely picked words that straddle all genres, the CD is sure to excite. Through his work as an actor and radio DJ, OJ Blaq has established himself as a real entertainer. He now plans to mystify the world with his true passion, music.
