Ghanaians Roast Adwoa Safo For Sharing Yoghurt At Registration Centre

Adwoa Safo is in the news again as social media users roast her for insulting the intelligence of her constituents after she was seen in a video sharing yogurt at a registration center.

According to the content of a video making the rounds online, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya is seen handing over the yogurts to new registrants while they await their turn in a queue.

When the video emerged on Twitter, most folks descended on her for the gesture, saying she was doing everything in her power to ride on the ignorance of the people to be retained in connection with the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Adwoa Safo flirted with controversy last week when she begged for forgiveness from the hierarchy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including her constituents, ahead of the primaries geared towards the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, the chief of staff for the NPP, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, all received an unequivocal apology from the lawmaker who represents the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency’s residents for her recent behavior.

She claimed that her actions were unintended and the result of difficulties she was facing both personally and as a family member. The former deputy majority leader begged for pardon from her party’s regional and constituency executives as well as the majority caucus.

“I take this opportunity in the name of God to beg you all,” she said in a video broadcast posted on Facebook on Thursday, September 14.

“My regional executives, my constituency executives led by Chairman Bonsu, the headquarters of the New Patriotic Party, the General Secretary and the National Chairman and your executives, I beg you all.

“Supporters and sympathizers who love the party and love me and have great confidence in my constituency, I beg you all. Whatever has happened forgive me my sins.”

After being absent for more than a year, Ms. Adwoa Safo appeared before the Parliamentary Privileges Committee in 2022. Her fellow Majority members wanted her seat to be declared vacant, but National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs resisted, sparking a heated discussion.

The former Minister of Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection stated her intention to run in the party’s primaries for the 2024 elections upon her return to Ghana.

“But I know [God] has opened the way,” she told some party supporters on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.

“He has paved a new way through you. “So, all I am saying is that if God willing the leadership of the party opens nominations for parliamentary primaries, as you are behind me, I will contest again. No baga waya,” she said in Twi, amid cheers from her audience.
