God Won’t Make You Rich- Nigerian Pastor Dr Abel Damina Reveals

Dr. Abel Damina, a controversial Nigerian pastor, recently appeared as a guest on Paul Adom Otchere’s renowned show, Good Evening Ghana.

During the interview, he reiterated many of his sermons that have stirred up controversy within the Christian community. The senior pastor of Power City International Church in Akwa-Ibom addressed the misconception that praying to God will automatically result in financial blessings.

He emphasized that Jesus’ primary purpose on earth was not to make individuals wealthy but rather to establish his kingdom and reconcile humanity with God.

Dr Damina expressed his concern that many churches today focus more on money-making and miracles than teaching the true gospel centered around Christ himself.

He firmly stated that Christ did not come to make us rich, but rather, God has provided a world where wealth is accessible to both Christians and non-Christians on an equal playing field.

In his Facebook timeline, Damina shared a comparable message in 2021, highlighting the misuse of the scriptures about Isaac sowing in the land and reaping a hundredfold. He believes that many have been misled into believing that giving leads to wealth accumulation. Damina clarified that the scripture actually refers to Isaac’s profession and the blessings he received through his diligent work.

A portion of his message read:

That scripture was talking about the profession of Isaac and the fact that he sowed seeds. He planted seeds and the Lord blessed the seeds that he planted and he was able to harvest hundred-fold. That scripture is about hard work and the fact that Isaac was a farmer. What makes people rich is hard work and ability to take advantage of the opportunity that comes your way. You also become rich by inheritance.

Some people woke up to meet money in their family. What they just need to do is to be able to manage the money. But for some of us that have no such inheritance, we will have to work hard. Because my father could not pay my school fees, I had to take to farming during holidays. I would farm from 5 am to 6 pm so I could raise some money for myself.

I farmed throughout my university education. I was going to the farm and paying my school fees till I finished school. I was farming and helping people. My house was a cooking place for brethren. Why other students were playing games during holidays I was farming.

It gives me joy to know that is how God has helped me. if you can’t get a job, create one for yourself. Stop fooling around. If the government will not employ you, employ yourself. Push truck if possible, help people carry their load if possible. Don’t sit at home and be waiting for some dream jobs that may never come.
