Good Structures Needed For Royalty System To Work-Sarkodie
Sarkodie has emphasized the importance of establishing a solid structure within the music industry to ensure the viability of the royalty system.
He believes that by implementing effective systems, artists can reap the rewards of their hard work, similar to their counterparts in the Western world.
In his opinion, the royalty system has been a significant concern in our country. However, he believes that rectifying this issue is a relatively simple task. He argued that by implementing a well-functioning system, artists can easily recoup their earnings.
“The royalty system has been a top issue in this country. It is something so little to do. You just put a system in place and get the money back.
We have our people here playing the music. If there was a system here where they had to log in for every song they play…This evening, they played two of my songs and that could be four cedis. How many events are they having in a week? Parties, Funerals, naming ceremonies among others,” he said.
On whether the existing streaming platforms are being fair he indicated that “that’s their business model and we cannot question them. But some are being fair.
In the same vein, Sarkodie recently asked his fans if they would be open to owning shares in any of the songs from his extensive collection that covers his entire career in the music industry.
He desires for them to have the rights to a song they financially support to receive royalties. The rapper posed this question to X.
He said, “Sarknation interested in owning shares in one Sarkodie Track and earn royalties?”
When you purchase a share in a company, you are essentially acquiring a portion of ownership in that company. As a shareholder, your investment return is dependent on the success or failure of the company itself, as you hold an equity stake in the business.
In the case of buying shares in Sarkodie’s song, fans would have the opportunity to earn royalties indefinitely whenever the song is streamed on various digital platforms.
Whenever you listen to a song on a streaming platform like Spotify, the artiste receives payment in the form of royalties.
