How Sarkodie Prophesied His Success —Danso Abiam Reveals
Ghanaian rapper Danso Abiam has reflected on how Sarkodie predicted his future success during their early days, foreseeing that he would become a renowned superstar in a radio interview.
Abiam, whose collaboration with Sarkodie on the hit song Ghanaian Lady (Belly Dancer) marked a turning point in his career, said that before Sarkodie gained widespread fame, he foresaw a future where billboards would showcase his image.
During a trip to producer Sugartone’s studio in Accra, Sarkodie pointed out a banner in Ashaiman advertising a church crusade, confidently stating that one day banners would feature his image and concerts would be titled Rapperholic.
Abiam confirmed that Sarkodie’s prophecy has indeed come true, as he now stands as one of the most successful and affluent artists in Ghana and Africa.
Sarkodie began his musical career as an underground rapper, competing in the prominent Adom FM rap contest Kasahare Level. While participating in the aforementioned competition, he met his erstwhile manager Duncan Williams of Duncwills Entertainment.
He also met the musicians Edem and Castro, who introduced him to the renowned record producer Hammer of the Last Two. Hammer allowed Sarkodie to record two tracks for Edem’s debut album Volta Regime after being impressed by his rap routines.
Sarkodie frequently showcases his rapping skills in Twi, a Ghanaian language, and is recognized as a versatile rapper with a wide range of musical styles. He is consistently praised as one of Africa’s top hip hop artists, with accolades such as being ranked sixth on MTV Base’s list of the Hottest African MCs in 2014.
Additionally, he was named the number one Ghanaian rapper of all time by Lynx TV in 2013, and ranked third on AfricaRanking.com’s list of the Top 10 African Rappers in 2015. The Guardian also highlighted him as one of the top five hip hop acts in Africa.
Sarkodie’s success extends beyond music, as he was listed as the 8th richest African artist by Forbes and Channel O in both 2013 and 2015. Most recently, in 2020, he was honored with the “Artiste of the Year” award at the Ghana Music Awards USA (GMA USA).
