Erling Haaland has surpassed the record for most goals scored in a single Premier League campaign.
The Norwegian international who is just 22 years old broke the previous mark of 34 goals shared by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole on Wednesday by scoring his 35th league goal of the season in Manchester City’s 3-0 victory over West Ham.
Haaland had already surpassed Mohamed Salah of Liverpool’s 32 goals during the 2017–18 season to set a new record for the most goals in a 38–game season.
Haaland still has five games left in the current season to add to his already amazing total. It’s important to note that Shearer and Cole both reached their records during seasons with 22 clubs competing in the top division, giving them four more games to participate in.
In contrast, Haaland has achieved his record in just 31 games in his debut season in English football. Haaland’s impressive performance throughout the season has been a key factor in Manchester City’s success, as they currently sit at the top of the Premier League table.
