Harvey Weinstein Gets 16 More Years Sentence On L.A. Sexual Assault Charges

On Thursday, a judge in Los Angeles gave disgraced former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein an extra 16 years in prison. In December, he was found guilty on three counts of rape and sexual assault. The 70-year-old is also serving a 23-year prison sentence in New York for rape and sexual assault. It is very likely that Weinstein will now spend the rest of his life in prison.

Judge Lisa Lench of the Los Angeles Superior Court told Weinstein that he has to serve this second sentence after he finishes his 23-year sentence in New York. This means that he will start it right after he finishes his time in New York.

During the Los Angeles trial, the woman whose testimony provided the basis for his conviction was referred to as “Jane Doe No. 1.” The woman is a European model whom Weinstein raped at a Los Angeles film festival in February 2013. He was sentenced on the charges of forcible rape, sexual penetration by a foreign object, and forcible oral copulation.

The former producer used to be one of the most powerful people in Hollywood, and he was tried in California on seven counts of rape and sexual assault against four women between 2004 and 2013. The jury found him not guilty on one count and was deadlocked on three others.

In Los Angeles, Weinstein was first charged with eleven counts of rape and sexual assault. By the time he went to trial, four of those charges related to a woman named “Jane Doe #5” had been dropped because the state “was unable to proceed” with her claims.

Weinstein executive produced a slew of popular films, including The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Scary Movie, Sin City, Rambo, and Southpaw.
