Highlife Singer Kwadwo Akwaboah Snr Reported Dead

According to reports, Akwaboah Jnr’s father, Kwadwo Akwaboah Snr, has passed away.

Akwaboah, who was originally signed to Sarkodie’s SarkCess Music, wrote on his Instagram page, “RIP Daddy,” without going into much detail about the events leading up to his father’s passing.

The older Akwaboah is best known for his iconic song “Awerekyekyere,” which was released more than 20 years ago. Recently, a remix version was created with Akwaboah Jr.

The song’s version, which had a well-captured studio performance, caught the eye of many listeners and gained a ton of airtime.

Kwadwo Akwaboah Snr goes blind

The Highlife legend lost his sight before his tragic passing, and in a radio interview from 2020, he explained how he did so. He asserted that it all started when he awoke one morning to find a blood mark in one of his eyes. He visited the doctor, but the drug had no impact.

This revelation was made by Kwadwo Akwaboah during a TV XYZ interview. He said that he moved to Ghana to try traditional medicine since he trusted it more than Western treatments after having therapy there didn’t provide any better outcomes. After contacting Ghana’s herbalists and spiritual leaders, the issue only became worse.

Kwadwo asserted that he still has hope of becoming sighted in the future and that he believes spiritual powers were to blame for his blindness.

“I woke up one day after playing with a band and realised that my right eye had blood spot on it,” he said. “So, I visited my doctor who gave me an eye drop to use. But after using for some time, it didn’t work.”

He also said his son, Akwaboah, has been giving him massive financial support, however, he feels he is draining him.

“To be honest, my son has been providing all the financial support since I arrived in Ghana. He is just a little so I can’t always depend on him for my needs. He always checks up on me and sends me money. I’ve never needed money but I feel I can’t put on my burden on him.”
