How To Get Young-Looking Skin Without Needles

Imy Brighty-Potts claims that anti-wrinkle injectables are not necessary.

The lines around your eyes and mouth, as well as the age spots on your forehand, are obvious signs of a full and eventful life. Some people may consider cosmetic injections as a means of eliminating crow’s feet and laugh lines.

While there’s certainly nothing wrong with opting for cosmetic surgery or the natural ageing process, some beauty lovers are going for a third option: using cosmetics that produce a smoothing effect.

‘Notox’ is rapidly gaining popularity as it represents the move towards non-invasive anti-ageing techniques.

Justine Masters, an alternative facialist, thinks that people don’t get injectables because “it hasn’t worked in the past,” she says.

“It might have given them droopy eyelids or had other bad effects on the body, or they might not want to put poison in their bodies every few months for health reasons or because it’s expensive.”

People who are obsessed with skincare have been looking for non-invasive alternatives, but what are they and do they work?

Collagen

“Losing them causes lines and wrinkles. As we age, we lose collagen and elastin in our skin, which are two important proteins that help maintain its structure and give it bounce,” says Obtain Aesthetics aesthetic expert Dr. Deepa Panch.

Panch advises collagen serums and supplements for suppleness. “There are several collagen supplements, but my favourites are the liquid marine collagen ones.”

She recommends “ensuring a good skincare routine and making sure to include a daily high factor SPF to protect collagen breakdown from UV rays.”

Retinol

Experts say, “Retinol can be used to speed up the turnover of cells and make collagen and elastin more quickly.” People with sensitive skin may find that retinol makes them feel uncomfortable. Start slowly to build up your tolerance, and only use it at night. Use sunscreen the next morning after using it at night.

LED masks

People have said that LED masks help the body make more collagen. You can use industrial-strength ones at a dermatologist’s office, but many brands also sell ones you can use at home that claim to make your skin look better.

Celebrities like Bella Hadid and Mindy Kaling have used one particular brand, Omnilux. It claims to be clinically proven to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, redness, and acne by a lot.

Hyaluronic acid

The key to keeping skin looking healthy and radiant is keeping it well moisturised. “Hyaluronic acid promotes volume by keeping the dermis moist, but it also has the potential to hold cells closely together to lift the skin.” It’s advisable to use retinol at night and a product with hyaluronic acid during the day. Studies show that hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water.

Microcurrent facials

The most scary (literally) way to treat notox is with a small hand-held device that sends tiny amounts of electricity through the skin.

Experts say microcurrent can be used to elevate and tone facial muscles, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The goal is to work the skin and muscles so that the cheekbones and jawline look more defined and sculpted.
