I am being frowned at for supporting Free SHS – Cwesi Oteng

Ghanaian gospel musician Cwesi Oteng has opened up about facing criticism due to his outspoken support for President Akufo-Addo’s Free Senior High School (Free SHS) initiative.

The ‘God Dey Bless Me’ singer, known for endorsing the policy before the 2016 and 2020 elections, clarified that his support is rooted in the merits of the Free SHS program, not allegiance to any political party.

In an interview with Keely Jade Brewer on the Between Hours Show on Asaase Radio 99.5, Oteng expressed his frustration, saying, “Someone will look at me and frown because I support Free SHS.”

Emphasizing that he is not a politician, Oteng highlighted that his endorsement of free SHS led him to support the candidate enforcing the policy.

Oteng explained that he views President Akufo-Addo’s Free SHS policy as a positive and necessary idea. Despite his endorsement facing severe criticism, he lamented, “You go to a place only to realize that because you support free SHS, people act differently towards you.”

He pointed out that individuals seem to forget the positive impact of the Free SHS initiative.
