I Stepped Up When Others Were Scared To Put Their Political Careers On The Line During Election Petition – Bawumia Brags

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has declared that he is the best candidate to lead the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections.

He believes that his dedication to the party over the years gives him the chance to take over as president after Akufo-Addo and “break the 8.”

Dr. Bawumia claims that his current rivals for the party leadership position made excuses when they were called upon to serve as witnesses in the party’s 2012 general election petition.

In a speech to Ashanti Regional delegates of the party on Thursday, July 6, Dr. Bawumia stated he risked his political career for the NPP, which ultimately won in 2016.

“Most of our members were giving excuses when the party was in need of a witness for the 2012 general election petition at the Supreme Court. I sacrificed my political career for the party, knowing very well the implications ahead if I don’t deliver well in court.”

“The excuses were many, some claimed they were travelling and all that because they were scared to put their political career on the line, but I stood my ground, I’m the best person to lead the party,” Dr. Bawumia added.

Supporters of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a close rival of Dr. Bawumia, feel that their candidate should be elected since he has also made sacrifices for the party. Per their argument, Alan Kyerematen has been has bid his time as he competed with President Akufo-Addo for the role in 2008.

On November 4, the NPP will hold a poll to choose its candidate for the 2024 elections. Professor Mike Oquaye, a former Speaker of Parliament, is now heading the party’s Vetting Committee, which has already vetted ten potential candidates.
