I’m Sorry-Fameye Apologises For Downplaying VGMAs

Fameye has expressed regret for underestimating the importance of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) in the past in a new interview with Graphic Showbiz.

The Nothing I Get hitmaker acknowledges that he made a mistake in his previous comments regarding Ghana’s leading award scheme, which plays a crucial role in recognizing and honouring Ghanaian artistes, setting a standard for excellence in the industry.

He encourages other artistes who have criticized the VGMAs to show humility and collaborate with Charterhouse to collectively enhance the prestige of the award scheme in Ghana.

He said while winning international awards would bring him joy, he emphasizes that winning accolades like Songwriter of the Year, Record of the Year, or Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards holds special significance.

He stresses the importance of supporting and appreciating the VGMAs more, and therefore extends his apologies to his fans and Charterhouse for not giving enough importance to the VGMAs.

“There’s always the tendency to favour foreign products over local ones and that has translated into the condemnation of the VGMAs in recent years.

“It’s as if it is not worth winning the VGMA anymore and that until you grab a BET or Grammy, you are not a big or talented artiste enough. I have been there before, there was a time I badly wanted to win a BET award but what’s the point, if you are not duly honoured in your home.

“While winning international awards would bring me joy, I’d be even happier to win accolades such as Songwriter of the Year, Record of the Year, or Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards. It’s important for us to start supporting and valuing ours more. And that is why I apologise to my fans and to Charterhouse for not placing much significance on VGMAs.

“The Ghana Music Awards is undoubtedly the premier award scheme in our music industry. Despite almost overlooking their significance in my earlier years, I now hold them in higher esteem than any other awards scheme,” he said.

The Ghana Music Awards, founded in 1999 by Charterhouse, is a prestigious annual event that aims to recognize and honor the remarkable achievements of Ghanaian musicians in fostering the development and advancement of the music industry.
