“I’m Surprise NPP Has The Courage To Take Additional Loans At This Critical Moment” – Ato Forson

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has stated that where the current administration is taking Ghana is frightening, and he is calling on civil society organisations and good-hearted Ghanaians to stand with them to point this government in the right direction.

Speaking in an interview with TV3, the MP for Ajumako Enyan constituency expressed his amazement that the NPP has the guts to take additional loans at this critical moment.

“When the motions were called, they carried the day, but, long story short, I’m surprised that the NPP has the courage to take additional loans at this critical moment. We call on the people of Ghana to join the NDC minority opposition and call on this government to account… not just the accounts.” he said.

In the latest news today, he said that it’s unfortunate that many who voted for the NPP have been silent while the opposition has criticised and guided this government.

“I mean, the opposition cannot do it alone. There are people in this country that voted for the NPP; they voted for these numbers, yet they have left it only for the opposition to criticise and to point this government in the right direction, I think that is sad.”

“We call on the civil society organisations, well-meaning Ghanaians, academia, and major institutes of states to join us in opposing this administration because where they are taking this country is scary. My brother, why am I saying this? We are in a major hole, and when you are in a hole, the first thing you do is stop digging so that you don’t continue going down. Unfortunately, this government will not stop digging.” he added.

Parliament approved seven loans on May 2, 2023, including a $200 million supply facility from the World Bank. The Ghana Digital Acceleration Project is counting on $200 million to cover all of its expenses.

According to a report submitted by Finance Committee Chairman Kwaku Kwarteng, the money would be used to build the $200 million Ofankor-Nsawam road, the $75 million Ejisu-Konongo road, and the $10 million Nsawam-Apedwa road; the construction of the Kwabenya-Peduase road, which will cost $10 million; the completion of Eastern Corridor Lots 5 and 6 (at a cost of $70 million); the Suame Interchange; and local road projects would cost $47 million.

The other three are the African Games stadium infrastructure building ($140 million), the purchase of rolling stock and spare parts ($30 million), and the Enkyikrom-Adawso road project ($98 million).
