Popular Ghanaian actor John Setor Dumelo has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to cancel plans to celebrate Ghana’s 66th independence celebration.
The 6th of March, 2023 is the date set to commemorate Ghana’s 66th Independence Day. National and regional events are planned to celebrate the day, with the main ceremony taking place in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region. The President of Ghana, Akufo-Addo, is scheduled to make an appearance and give a speech.
According to a tweet obtained by Tru News Report, the 2020 parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Party in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, justified his statement by citing the country’s current economic situation. He thinks the country could save money by canceling the celebrations and instead having the president give a televised address to mark the occasion.
“Greetings @NAkufoAddo, respectfully we are in hard times, can you please cancel all state, regional and district Independence Day celebrations? You can do your usual ‘fellow Ghanaians’ broadcast on tv. This will save us millions of cedis. Thanks so much” he said.
Recently John Dumelo announced his decision that he will run in the next parliamentary primaries for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the party’s Ayawaso West Wuogon ticket. “After an extensive consultation with my God, my family and our party faithfuls in Ayawaso West Wuogon! This’s the second coming”. he said
