Paul Julius Nunda, born September 12, 1979, is a Kenyan hip hop artiste best known by his stage name Jua Cali. He was raised as a devout Catholic in California Estate, located east of Nairobi. He was known as an introverted adolescent who was frequently silent and rarely socialized. He attended Ainsworth Primary School (Standards 1 to 6), Shepherds Junior Buruburu (Standards 6 to 8), Jamuhuri High School, and Kenya Christian Industrial Training Institute (K.C.I.T.I) Eastleigh, where he earned a certificate in Information technology.

His stage moniker, Jua Cali, is derived from an estate in Nairobi called California, as is the name of his label, Calif Records. The Swahili word for ‘Know’ is ‘Jua’. This translates to ‘Know California’

Jua Cali and his childhood friend Clemo founded Calif Records, a record label that rapidly rose to prominence in the East African music scene with chart-topping artists and songs. Additionally, Calif Records created the Genge genre of Kenyan hip hop.

Their debut recording,” Ruka,” was released in 2001, and “Nipe Asali” followed in 2002. In 2004, they collaborated on the song “Kamata Dame” with Pilipili.

Jua Cali has released a succession of new songs with the help of American producer Keggah. Both of his new compositions, Karibu Nairobi and Kuna Sheng, have received extensive airplay and positive reviews from entertainment in Kenya pundits.
