Kim Petras Becomes First Transgender Woman To Win Grammys’ “Best Pop Duo Performance” For The Song “Unholy” With Sam Smith

Sam Smith and Kim Petras have won the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, making Kim Petras, the German singer, and songwriter, the first transgender woman to win that award.

During the acceptance speech, Smith let Petras take the microphone and she paid tribute to the late artiste Sophie for inspiring her, as well as her mother for her lifelong support.

Other nominees in that category include ABBA (“Don’t Shut Me Down”), Camila Cabello and Ed Sheeran (“Bam Bam”), Coldplay and BTS (“My Universe”), and Post Malone and Doja Cat (“I Like You (A Happier Song)”).

The song was released on 22 September 2022 as the second single from Smith’s fourth studio album Gloria (2023).

Smith’s fourth album, “Gloria,” debuted on Jan. 27. In addition to “Unholy,” the album features the songs “Love Me More,” “Gimme,” and “I’m Not Here to Make Friends.” They also released a music video for “I’m Not Here to Make Friends” on the day the album dropped.

“Unholy” entered at the top of the UK Singles Chart.
