KNUST Ranked Best In The World For Provision Of Education Based On SDG 4

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been ranked number one in the world for its impeccable role in contributing to the accomplishment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (UN SDG 4), which is focused on providing high-quality education.

The ranking was revealed in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023 edition, which was released on June 1, 2023. The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings are the only international performance tables that rank universities using the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.

The ranking offers thorough and unbiased comparisons across four major areas: research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching. It does this by using painstakingly calibrated measures. The fifth edition of the 2023 Impact Rankings included a total of 1,591 universities from 112 different nations.

The KNUST outperformed all other colleges in the world in terms of offering top-notch education, securing the top spot globally with an exceptional score of 93.1. Universities’ contributions to early childhood and lifelong learning, research, and their commitment to inclusive education are assessed under the SDG 4 – Quality Education area.

The accomplishment in 2023 is a significant improvement over the rankings from 2022, which put the University at the top of Africa and 14th internationally in terms of (SDG4).

Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, the University Relations Officer, expressed his reaction to the most recent ranking and emphasized that this outstanding success represents the significant and strategic investments made by the university’s management over the years.

He lauded the previous and present administrations for considerable expenditures in infrastructure, ICT, and e-learning resources, which he claimed had significantly improved the educational experience at KNUST, in a news release released on June 2, 2023.

“This significant achievement stands as a testament to the collective efforts and unwavering commitment exhibited by the entire KNUST community”, he said.

Impact Rankings 2023: quality education (SDG 4) methodology

This ranking focuses on universities’ contribution to early years and lifelong learning, their research on quality education and their commitment to inclusive education. Because early years provision and lifelong learning are not the main focus of education at universities, this table should not be used to assess the overall quality of teaching at a university.
