LilWin Announces Political Ambition, Eyes Afigya Kwabre South Seat
Award-winning Ghanaian actor, Kwadwo Nkansah alias Lilwin has recently disclosed his intentions to venture into the field of politics.
He will be running as an independent candidate for the parliamentary seat representing the Afigya Kwabre South constituency, located in the Ashanti region of Ghana. He claims that he made the decision after being approached by chiefs and other dignitaries in his constituency who asked him to run in the next elections.
Lilwin mentioned this in an interview with Okay FM on August 23, 2023, and explained that the local authorities wanted him to run for politics because of his massive fan base.
“Around October of last year, I happened to be in a situation when several seniors came up to me. They said that they had already met to talk about the idea of me becoming their MP, but as an independent candidate. They promised me that they would do everything they could to help me win the election,” he said.
“Their concern has recently intensified because of my most recent film, ‘Mr. President.’ They requested a copy of the film and, after viewing it, came to inform me that, regardless of what, they had informed my mother, my uncle Wofa Atta, and many other members of my family that I must become an MP.
He went on to say that by running as an independent candidate, he would be able to unite his supporters and avoid alienating either of his political parties.
“At first, I told them I wasn’t interested, but they kept pushing me to run as an independent candidate. That way, I wouldn’t have divided fans of the NPP, NDC, or CPP… They also stated that I would be provided with an English language teacher to help me speak and express myself more effectively.”
“Many of the young people in our area are struggling because of drug and alcohol abuse. Consequently, if I go there, I believe I would concentrate on employment… because without employment, they engage in all manner of bad behaviour,” he added.
