Madonna Discharged From Hospital After Serious Bacterial Infection

Veteran singer Madonna is back home and recuperating hours after she was admitted at the hospital for bacterial infection.

Guy Oseary, Madonna’s longtime manager, revealed on his Instagram account on Wednesday that the 64-year-old Queen of Pop had been hospitalized since Saturday due to a major bacterial illness that required a “several-day stay in the ICU.”

A source told PEOPLE on Wednesday the superstar was “out of the ICU and recovering.”

In his post, Oseary also told fans Madonna’s work commitments — including a highly anticipated tour originally scheduled to kick off next month — would have to be halted.

“We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows,” wrote Oseary, who added that Madonna was expected to make a “full recovery.”

When Madonna announced her Celebration Tour in January, she told her fans that she wanted to celebrate her career’s 40th anniversary with the upcoming performances and pay homage to the place where she first rose to fame: New York.

“I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for,” said Madonna in a press release about the tour.

The “Queen of Pop” Madonna is well known for her constant innovation and adaptability in music production, composition, and visual presentation. She continues to exercise total control over every facet of her career while pushing the limits of artistic expression in popular music.

Her works, which combine social, political, sexual, and religious themes, have sparked debate and received high praise from critics. Madonna, a well-known cultural icon of the 20th and 21st centuries, continues to be one of the most “well-documented figures of the modern age” with a large body of academic analyses and literature works on her and an academic mini-subdiscipline called Madonna studies devoted to her.
