Man Gets 6 Months Jail Term For Cheating
A 30-year-old man named Bege Mato was found guilty of cheating by an Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, according to viral content making rounds on the internet.
He was given a six-month jail sentence by the presiding judge, George Gwani. The defendant, a Kamuru resident, was accused of defrauding and criminal breach of trust. Julius Jonah, the complainant, brought the situation to the attention of the Kafanchan Divisional Police Station on July 25, according to Police Prosecutor Inspector Esther Bishen.
Jonah, who resides in Bakin Kogi, allegedly paid the defendant N795,000 to provide him with ginger, according to Bishen, who testified in court. She alleged that he only provided ginger valued at N535,000 and used the balance of N260,000 for his own use.
The accused entered a guilty plea and asked for mercy. Sections 296 and 306 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law are violated, according to the prosecutor.
The defendant was given a three-month term for the first count in Justice George Gwani’s decision, and a six-month sentence for the second count, all of which are to run consecutively.
However, he offered the convict the choice of paying a fine of N15,000 for the first offence and N25,000 for the second. Following a request from the prosecutor, the judge also granted the complainant compensation in the amount of N260,000.
