Yahuza Osumanu, the man responsible for the recent robbery involving Matilda Yaaba Amissah Arthur, the wife of the former Vice President, has been brought before the High Court in Accra.
He is facing allegations of orchestrating and carrying out a series of high-profile robberies. Osumanu stands accused of robbing a 76-year-old woman in Ridge and robbing Matilda Amissah Arthur by strangling her and repeatedly hitting her head with his gun.
According to the prosecution, Osumanu made off with GH₵28,000, £50, and $2,200 during the robbery at Matilda Amissah Arthur’s residence. He is also accused of targeting businessmen and women in affluent communities, stealing valuables worth millions of Ghana cedis.
These stolen items include two Rolex watches worth $61,000, two Cartier wristwatches worth $19,000, an iPhone 15 Pro Max worth $1,000, and jewelry worth $50,000, among others. The prosecution further alleges that Osumanu used the proceeds from these crimes to acquire luxury cars and apartments for himself, including a Toyota FJ Cruiser, Toyota Prado, and Lexus.
Led by Chief State Attorney Frances M. Ansah, the prosecution has charged Osumanu with 26 counts of robbery and money laundering on April 16. Despite pleading not guilty during his appearance before Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, Osumanu has been remanded into prison custody. He is scheduled to reappear in court on May 2 this year.
Providing details of the case, CSA Ansah stated that the Police CID received numerous complaints of residential robberies committed by a single armed man in areas such as Airport, Cantonments, Tesano, and Ridge during the second quarter of 2023.
The incidents reported on September 17, 2023, and subsequently on December 4 and 5, 2023, involving Daniel Kwame Osafo, Tracy Osei-Hyeaman, and Mrs. Amissah Arthur, led to the identification and pursuit of Osumanu.
He was eventually arrested on December 15, 2023, in Kasoa, with the help of CCTV footage and other evidence from the incidents.
