Meet Mejja’s Parents

Mejja and his siblings were raised by a single mother after his father abandoned the family without providing any support when Mejja was a very young child.

Who are Mejja’s Parents?

Major Nemeye Khadija, also known as Mejja, is a well-known Genge artist. He has explained why he took his mother’s second name. The artiste who grew up in Nyeri’s Majengo slums, said in an interview that he is paying respect to his mother because she raised him and his two brothers on her own after their father left.

“I call myself Khadija because my father was a sperm donor. As a child, I didn’t understand the sacrifices she made for us. Sometimes, I would find her crying in the house, and she’d act like nothing was wrong. When I grew up and had my family, I realised she went through a lot to raise three boys. After coming to Nairobi, people would always comment about the name, saying it’s a woman’s, so I started insisting on Mtoto wa Khadija. She’s my inspiration,” he said.

Mejja’s Dad: Who is Mejja’s father?

Mejja has previously said that his biological father was only a sperm donor in an interview because his father left his mother to raise him and his brothers without any support. Mejja says that being raised by a single mother showed him the problems that children without a father figure face. This made him want to be involved in the lives of his own children.

“I have faced so many challenges that in an ideal situation, my father’s advice would have come in handy, but I had to deal with a lot on my own. There are some things you can’t tell your mother, as it would give her more stress.

“People don’t realise that I have children; I promised myself to never be away from them. I didn’t want to raise my kids outside the family unit, but circumstances forced me to. It doesn’t matter if we are not together with baby mama; the child did nothing wrong,” said Mejja.

However, despite his wealth and notoriety, few details of his private life are publicly known. This is because Mejja has kept a low profile in entertainment in Kenya for many years, but he recently gave an interview in which he discussed his life and why he took his mother’s last name rather than his father’s.

Mejja’s Mom: Who is Mejja’s mother?

When Mejja talked about his childhood in Nyeri, he said that he used to brag to his friends about how his mother could take several painkillers without knowing she had a brain tumour. It got worse when Khadija’s wealthy grandma passed away, and it turned out she wasn’t her real mother.

Does Mejja have siblings?

Mejja has two brothers. His older brother became a drug addict as a result of the family crisis. When Mejja found himself at an awkward point in life, he decided to start making money by doing odd tasks, some of which were illegal.

“I did many odd jobs, including selling groundnuts. Touched by my plight, an empathetic man gave me a job cleaning his hotel in exchange for lunch. My interest in music started after watching my elder brother rap. I started imitating his flow and realised that my peers liked it, and the girls were smitten. I started writing music; at the time, I had a job selling mogoka at night,” said Mejja.
