Minister Worried About 10 Maternal Deaths In Ahafo Region In First Half Of 2023

The Ahafo Regional Minister, George Boakye is concerned about the high number of maternal deaths reported in the first half of 2023.

In light of this worrying development, he has requested that the Regional Health Directorate increase its efforts to prevent it.

During a 2023 mid-year performance review meeting in Goaso, hosted by the Ahafo Regional Health Directorate, the Minister expressed his worry.

He stated that despite the devoted efforts of healthcare professionals, the region has experienced an alarming increase in maternal deaths compared to the same time period last year, which is seriously disturbing.

Mr. Boakye stressed the seriousness of the situation, saying that the recorded numbers of maternal deaths in the first half of this year are extremely worrisome. He told the Regional Health Directorate that it needed to improve its plans and actions to stop this rise in maternal deaths.

Also, the Director of the Ghana Health Service in Ahafo, Dr. Kwabena Boakye Boateng, shared the Minister’s worries. In an interview with Adom News, he admitted that maternal deaths are still a major problem in the Ahafo Region despite the efforts of healthcare professionals.

Dr. Boateng reported that there were only three maternal deaths in the first half of last year but ten in the first half of this year. The Directorate, he said, is currently conducting a thorough assessment to determine the main reasons for this increase and develop specific tactics to stop it.

The Ahafo Regional Health Directorate is showing its commitment to resolving this critical issue by trying to make sure that all pregnant women in the region have access to high-quality medical treatment and have healthy babies.
