Nana Akufo-Addo To Address The Nation On COVID-19 And IMF Programme This Evening, May 28

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will address the nation this evening, May 28, at 8:00 p.m., on how the government is handling the coronavirus and the IMF programme.

Ghana has lifted the COVID-19 restrictions at all entry ports into the country as of Saturday, May 20, 2023. This comes after the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared on May 5 that COVID-19 was no longer a public health emergency of international concern.

The Ghana Health Service declared that all COVID-19 safety entrance requirements are no longer in effect in a letter bearing Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye’s signature.

Pre-departure testing and testing at all ports of entry have been stopped, and the COVID-19 health declaration form for foreign travellers has been stopped, according to the statement.

In addition, he will give an update on the approved IMF bailout programme. The Executive Council of the International Monetary Fund approved Ghana’s request for a $3 billion extended credit facility on May 24, 2023, with the agreement expiring in 2027.

President Akufo-Addo has stated that Ghana’s International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout programme’s 10-month duration is one of the shortest periods for such a programme to be implemented.

He made the comment during his speech at the third Qatar Economic Forum that the nation needed to verify that the data presented was correct and that the macroindices were moving in the right direction.
