Nigerian Actress Amal Umar Arrested On Bribery Charges

Nigerian actress Amal Umar, who plies her trade in the Kannywood industry, has been brought before a Kano Magistrate’s Court on charges of allegedly trying to bribe a police officer.

The accusations revolve around an incident where she reportedly offered N250,000 to ASP Salisu Bujama of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Zone 1 headquarters in Kano State, in an attempt to halt an investigation into financial misappropriation involving her boyfriend, Ramadan Inuwa.

The case was initiated following a complaint lodged by Yusuf Adamu through his legal representative, H.I. Dederi, to AIG Umar Mohd Sanda on August 18, 2022.

The complaint detailed how Inuwa allegedly misused N40 million in his cell phone business, with N13 million being traced to Amal Umar’s bank account. Despite admitting that the funds belonged to her boyfriend, Amal Umar maintained that only N8 million was transferred to her.

After being questioned by the police and subsequently released on bail, she attempted to halt further investigations by seeking legal intervention from the High Court of Kano State.

The court temporarily restrained the police from pursuing the case, leading to an alleged bribery attempt by Amal Umar towards the investigating officer.

The Police successfully foiled the attempt and apprehended the actress, providing substantial evidence of the alleged bribery.

Consequently, she was brought before the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to face charges. The Kannywood actress stands accused of violating Section 118 of the Penal Code, which explicitly forbids the act of bribing a police officer.
