Nigerian Man Smashes World Record For Longest Painting Marathon

The excitement surrounding Africans and their pursuit of breaking Guinness World Records remains undiminished, as a Nigerian man has now made his mark in the esteemed record book.

Chancellor Ahaghotu, the man in question, has successfully painted for an impressive 100 consecutive hours, thereby establishing a new record.

Chancellor, who is currently a sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, has surpassed the previous record of 60 hours, which was achieved by Roland Palmaerts (Belgium/Canada) in 2013.

“I came to the United States to pursue my dreams and build up my career as a recognized artist,” Chancellor told us before embarking on his record attempt. “Breaking the record will boost my recognition as an artist both in my school and the world at large.”

The challenger has the option to either work on a single large painting or create multiple paintings for this record. However, the paintings must depict recognizable images and abstract painting is not allowed.

Over four days, the Chancellor dedicated himself tirelessly to create a total of 106 pieces. These artworks covered a wide range of subjects, including celebrities, food items, plants, animals, and much more.

As is customary with records involving long periods of activity, the challenger was allowed a five-minute break for every continuous hour of work. These breaks could accumulate if not taken immediately. It was during these breaks that Chancellor could attend to personal needs such as using the bathroom, eating, or sleeping.

Chancellor admits to experiencing fatigue around the 88-hour mark, but his determination to achieve his goal of 100 hours kept him going. He never considered giving up on the record attempt.

Initially, Chancellor had planned to complete one painting per hour. In preparation for the record attempt, he had already sketched out 100 canvases, ready to be painted. However, he managed to finish all of them with a few hours to spare. As a result, he decided to create a series of impromptu still lifes before concluding with a painting depicting an exhausted individual.

“One thing I love about the paintings I created is that they were representing my different moods and how I was feeling when I created them,” Chancellor explained.

“There was joy and celebration when I completed the 100 hours,” Chancellor said. “It was a new experience for me and I’m so glad I completed the 100 hours.

“This [record] helps me feel a very high level of personal achievement, build up my career as a reputable artist, and pay a service to my school and country, ” he concluded.
