Nigerian Transgender Fola Francis Drowns

Nigerian model and transgender Fola Francis is dead, multiple sources have confirmed.

On December 20, 2023, Fola, who was not only an influential LGBT activist but also a talented fashion designer, drowned at IIashe Beach.

Fola made history in 2022 by becoming the first Nigerian transgender individual to grace the runway at Lagos Fashion Week, showcasing designs for Cute-Saint and Fruché. Vincent Desmond, a freelance journalist, sadly confirmed this heartbreaking incident in a statement released on Friday, December 22.

“Fola Francis was a beacon of hope and a light to us and a lot of other people and we are deeply hurt by her passing,” he said.

“There ‘ll be a memorial, which will be discussed at a later date, and we, her family and friends, ask for privacy at this time,” he added.

Fola Francis was a Nigerian transgender model, LGBTQIA+ activist and entrepreneur. In 2022, she became the first Nigerian transperson to walk the Lagos Fashion Week for Cute Saint and Fruché.
