Nigeria’s Richest Woman Folorunsho Alakija And Her Husband Split After 40 Years Of Marriage

Multiple reports from mainstream Nigerian media outlets have indicated that Folorunsho Alakija, Nigeria’s wealthiest businesswoman, and her husband, Modupe Alakija have decided to end their 30-year marriage.

It has been reported that the couple no longer live together in their luxurious home in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The reasons behind their separation are said to be constant disagreements, leading Folorunsho to seek solace in her own home, while her husband has found alternative accommodations nearby.

Despite their public appearances, sources close to the couple reveal that their relationship has been strained for several years, and they have only maintained a united front due to their public status.

Alakija got married to Modupe Alakija in November 1976. Before their separation, they lived in Lagos, Nigeria, along with their four sons. In June 2017, their son Folarin Alakija, is married to Iranian model Nazanin Jafarian Ghaissarifar.

Folorunsho Alakija, a Nigerian businesswoman and philanthropist, holds the position of group managing director at The Rose of Sharon Group and serves as the executive vice chairman of Famfa Oil Limited.

She has been recognized multiple times as one of Forbes’ 100 most powerful women. Recently, on July 17, 2021, Benson Idahosa University in Benin City awarded her an honorary doctorate degree in business administration.

In addition to her professional achievements, Alakija has established the Rose of Sharon Foundation, which supports widows and orphans through scholarships and business grants. Furthermore, she has generously donated a skills acquisition centre to Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), a renowned higher educational institution located in Lagos.
