Hubert Mbuku Nakitare, better known by his stage name Nonini, is a Kenyan hip hop recording artist, entertainer, radio host, businessman and philanthropist.

He was born in California Estate in the Kamukunji constituency of Nairobi, Kenya. on October 2, 1982. He is of Luhya ancestry.

He attended Kawethei Secondary School in Machakos County. He is often referred to as the Godfather because he is very well known.

Nonini’s Career

Nonini was originally signed to Calif Records, but he later joined Homeboyz Productions. His debut single “Nonini ni Nani?” was his introduction to the Kenyan urban music landscape and entertainment in Kenya as a whole.

His 2002 release, “Manzi wa Nairobi,” which praised the beauty of Kenyan women, and his subsequent single “Weh Kamu” earned him national and regional recognition.

In late 2004, he released his debut album “Hanyaring Game,” which featured the popular song “Keroro,” a Kenyan slang term for alcohol (sheng).

Later, his collaboration with Tanzanian musician Juma Nature, their song “Nani Mwenza,” became a regional success. In addition, he collaborated with a local musician named Nameless to create a Friday anthem titled “furahi-day.”

His second studio album, “Mwisho Ya Mawazo,” was released in 2007. The album features guest appearances by Nyota Ndogo, Mercy Myra, Professor Jay, and Q-Chief.

He is the founder of the rap group P-Unit which came out of his video production company named “Pro Habo Entertainment.
 
P-Unit ia made up of Bonnie, Frasha, Gabu and they recently signed Jegede as well. The crew has produced a number of songs, including “Si Lazima,” a Swahili phrase that literally translates to “It’s not a must.” The song describes moments in a couple’s relationship when they do not need to have sex and can simply go home and relax.

People have found the song to be in direct opposition to the messages he conveyed in his previous songs.

In October 2022, Genge musician Nonini dedicated the year’s Mashujaa Day to his manager Aleki Boom, who recently survived a life-threatening accident and his late brother Jude Mwinduko who passed on years ago.
