North Korea And Russia Reportedly Strike Controversial Deal: Food For Weapons

According to recent reports, Russia has agreed to offer food to North Korea in exchange for weapons.

The US government has revealed that Russia is sending a delegation to North Korea to negotiate the deal. The US has previously accused North Korea of supplying arms to the Russian military in Ukraine and the Wagner group of Russian mercenaries, claims that North Korea has denied.

The US national security spokesperson, John Kirby, stated that any arms deal between North Korea and Russia would violate UN Security Council resolutions.

Kirby told a news conference on Thursday, March 30, that the US had new information about a deal between both countries. He added that the US was monitoring the situation and the alleged deal closely.

It is unclear what weapons North Korea will supply to Russia. However, it is likely that North Korea will want food, fuel, and other materials from Russia in return for weapons because they find it difficult to buy such goods from abroad under UN sanctions imposed over its nuclear and missile programs.

It is unlikely that North Korea will provide Russia with ballistic missiles that it views as crucial in its military strategies toward Washington and Seoul.

The alleged deal between North Korea and Russia has raised concerns among US officials. The US has been trying to persuade North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons program, and any arms deal between North Korea and Russia could undermine these efforts.

The US has also been imposing sanctions on North Korea to pressure it to abandon its nuclear weapons program.
