Plot To Assassinate Ukrainian President Zelenskyy Foiled

A plot to assassinate Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has been foiled, and a woman is being held in custody in relation to this development.

In the Mykolaiv region, the woman in question “was preparing a Russian airstrike during the visit of the President of Ukraine,” the SSU claimed.

“Primarily, the woman tried to establish the time and list of locations of the Head of State’s tentative itinerary in the region,” a statement from the SSU said, referring to a planned visit by the president to the southern region.

The intelligence assessment came as Russian soldiers attacked border areas in the northeast of Kharkiv region and the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson. According to Ukrainian officials, at least three persons were killed in the attacks.

“A difficult night for Kherson… The Russian army continued to set fire to the homes of Kherson residents in the central part of the city,” Kherson Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said on social media. One woman was killed in the attacks, Prokudin said.

Separately, Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff for President Zelenskyy, said that Moscow had shelled the Kharkiv area village of Kucherivka, which is near Ukraine’s border with Russia. According to Yermak, two persons died in that strike.

The attacks were merely the most recent in a daily aircraft barrage by Russia against Ukrainian towns and cities. The deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II is approaching the 18-month mark, and both nations have increased their strikes on each other’s military hardware, infrastructure, and personnel in recent weeks.

Reuters reported on Sunday that Ukraine had attacked two bridges connecting the Crimean Peninsula, a sizable area that Russia has held since 2014, to the Ukrainian mainland, citing both Kyiv and Moscow officials.

Russia launched a missile and drone onslaught against Ukraine over the weekend, including an attack on a blood transfusion facility that Zelenskyy dubbed “a war crime.” The attacks were thought to be a reprisal for an attack by Ukrainian sea drones on a key Russian port in the Black Sea on Friday, which seriously damaged a Russian vessel.
