NPP Candidate Ernest Yaw Annim Wins Kumawu By-Election

With more than 70% of the legitimate ballots cast, Ernest Yaw Annim of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has won the Kumawu by-election.

As of 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Electoral Commission (EC) had counted votes from 75 polling places, and Ernest Yaw Annim was in the lead with 14,195 votes, or 70.32 per cent.

Kwasi Amankwaa, the NDC candidate, received 3,569 votes, or 17.68%, of the total. The two independent candidates Kwaku Duah with a bird as his symbol received 2,362 votes, or 11.70 percent of the total valid votes cast, while Kwaku Duah with a hoe received 61 votes or 0.30 percent.

The Kumawu constituency in the Ashanti Region became vacant after the lawmaker who presents them in parliament Mr Basoah died on March 27, 2023, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where he has been on admission for a serious ailment.

Philip was born on November 18, 1969. He hails from Kumawu in the Ashanti region of Ghana.
