Vote For Dr. Bawumia To Prove That NPP Is Not An Akan Party- Asenso-Boakye To Delegates

New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Francis Asenso-Boakye has urged his party’s delegates to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Minister for Works and Housing stated that putting the Vice President as the leader of the NPP going into the general elections in 2024 would prove that the NPP is a party with widespread support.

According to the Bantama MP, supporting Dr. Bawumia as the NPP presidential nominee contradicts the widely-held claim that the NPP represents the interests of the Akan people. In order to motivate party members who are not Akan, he suggested that the time has come to give people from other tribes the chance to lead.

Francis Asenso-Boakye said in an interview with Oyerepa TV that the delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should elect Dr. Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate since he has been so essential to the party’s success.

“I have said that within the NPP now there is a good opportunity for us to send a strong signal to the rest of the world, particularly Ghanaians, that the NPP is a mass party but not just, excuse me to say, an ‘Akan party’. So if someone works hard enough for the party to a certain extent and wants a position, we should send a strong signal that the person who is not an ‘Akan’ can also lead. That is why I am of the view that Dr. Bawumia will be a well-placed candidate for the party in 2024,” he said.

The primary elections for the NPP presidency are scheduled for August and November of 2023, and ten candidates have declared their intention to run.
