NPP More Decentralized Than Ever- Alan Kyeremanten Reminded

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reminded Alan Kyeremanten that the party is more decentralized than ever contrary to the assertion he made that the party has been hijacked, which culminated in his acrimonious exit.

The leadership of the NPP claimed that the party has not been taken over by a small group of people during a news conference to dispel certain false impressions that Alan Kyerematen may have instilled in the minds of well-meaning Ghanaians.

“Guided by facts and data, the leadership of the Party disagrees entirely with this assertion. Historically, the selection of flagbearers for political parties in Ghana had been the preserve of a privileged few until the New Patriotic Party took the bold decision to decentralize the process by expanding its electoral college to enfranchise some One Hundred and Six Thousand, Five-Hundred and Ninety (106,590) delegates in 2010.

“Currently, about Two Hundred Thousand (200,000) delegates would be voting to select the Party’s next flagbearer relative to the estimated One Thousand Nine Hundred and Ninety-Eight delegates (1,998) who did same in 1992. Clearly, the quantum leap to Two Hundred Thousand (200,000) delegates in 2023 underscores the decentralization of power to all Party stakeholders and defeats the assertion that the Party has been hijacked by a privileged few.”

Alan Kyeremanten, on Monday, September 25, 2023, announced his resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He indicated that he needed to leave the political party after years of persecution from the leadership of the party. He cited ‘mafiarism’ within the party that informed his decision.

Parts of his speech said, “Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate“.

“To actualise this goal, I will establish and lead a new MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE in Ghana. The brand logo for the MOVEMENT is the Monarch Butterfly, which politically symbolizeschange and transformation, hope, and positivity. It also communicates strength, endurance, spirituality, and trust, which are key traits that I cherish as a Political Leader. In Akan, it is known as Afrafranto. The brand motto of the MOVEMENT is “Ghana Will Rise Again,” which symbolizes hope for the future of Ghana.”
