NPP MPs React To Haruna Iddrisu’s Removal From Seven Parliamentary Committees

MPs from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have expressed their displeasure with the removal of  Haruna Iddrisu, the former Minority Leader and current MP for Tamale South from seven different committees.

On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, the members of Parliament, led by Amidu Chinnia, MP for Sissala East Constituency, expressed their displeasure to the media in Parliament over the unfair treatment of the former Minority Leader.

They cited two major issues as justification for their worry: one was that he was kicked out from seven different committees and the other was trying to have him removed from office after he lost his leadership position.

“The five northern regions at least should have been represented, the Zongo communities in Ghana which contributes significantly to the votes of the NDC should have been represented. These changes took away Haruna Iddrisu who was the minority leader who was from the North, it took away Muntaka, a Zongo man”.

The lawmaker further condemned the National Democratic Congress, claiming that by expelling Haruna and Muntaka, the party had betrayed two of its most important voting groups: the northern regions and the Zongos (areas dominated by Muslims).

He emphasized how this action was a “complete disrespect” for the Zongo people because it removed their ability to be represented in government and from leadership positions in the north.

Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader, by virtue of his removal, he has been removed from several
committees of which he was serving. Appointments, Business, Inter-Parliamentary Union, Standing Orders Committees among others”. he said.
