The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has been asked by the New Patriotic Party to arrest former president John Mahama and Asiedu Nketiah for treasonous comments.
Henry Nana Boakye, also known as “Nana B,” the party’s national organiser, said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) wants the Criminal Investigations Department to arrest Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the national chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress.
He also claims that Mr. Asiedu Nketia has made statements that pose a serious threat to the country’s stability and peace. He warned that any hazardous comments from the two figures, who hold powerful positions in the country, could threaten national security.
“I am Henry Nana Boakye, a Ghanaian citizen and the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). I write to formally petition the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service, for the arrest, investigation and prosecution of H.E. John Drumani Mahama and Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC for treasonable and offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace contrary to Sections 180 and 207 of the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (ACT 29) respectively, and which offences are to be dealt with pursuant to Section 1 ofthe Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960 (ACT 30).” part of the statement reads.
Meanwhile, the NDC’s legal team has requested that Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi and Minister of Food and Agriculture, be arrested and prosecuted without further delay. Bryan Acheampong stated that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not hand over power to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). He claims the party will resort to every measure to ensure victory in the 2024 election.
“NDC party will collapse. If the NDC dares to use threats, violence, and foolishness in the 2024 election, we will let them know we have the men. we will show NDC that we have the men if they want to do intimidate, harass us or do anything foolish during the 2024 elections…. It will not happen that we will hand over power to NDC. We’ll use any means for NPP to stay in power.” Bryan Acheampong stated
