Retired Commissioner of Police, George Alex Mensah has lost his bid for the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary ticket in the Bekwai Constituency.
The former senior officer of the Ghana Police Service received 245 votes against 662 by the winner, Ralph Poku Adusei in the NPP’s January 27, 2023, parliamentary primaries.
Kingsley Opoku Agyemang and Henry Opoku Ware also received 1 and 30 votes respectively.
COP Alex Mensah was recently embroiled in a leaked recording controversy where he and two other senior officers were captured lobbying a politician for the removal of the current Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare.
While the leaked tape seemed to have threatened his chances in the election, COP Alex Mensah received the endorsement of the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Joseph Osei-Owusu, ahead of the contest.
